Canada Winter Games Trials

Oakville had 8 athletes competing for their chance to represent Ontario at the 2011 Winter Games to be held in Halifax in February. Just 1 week after competing at Tour Selection in Borden our athletes again put their routines to the test.  Sabrina Gill hit 4 for 4 and came away atop the group with Mikaela Gerber, Jordyn Pedersen and Krishna Yemeny finishing 2nd and 3rd (Jordyn and Krishna tied for 3rd). Finishing top four automatically qualify them to Team Ontario!!

Sylvia Colussi-Peleaz and Elise Bolger will join their teammates at a weeklong training camp and competition in Cancun, Mexico the first week of January where they will each look to grab 1 of the 3 remaining spots on the team.

Ontario Winter Games happens only once every four years and for Krishna this will be her second games!!

Christmas Training Schedule - Kelly, Sue and Lorne's Group

Ho Ho Ho!!  The Christmas training schedule has already been distributed but just in case you have misplaced it...........

Dec 19th - National Girls - 1pm to 5pm
Dec 20th thru Dec 23rd - Provincial and National Girls - 1pm to 5pm
Dec 24h thru Dec 26th - NO TRAINING
Dec 27th - National Girls - 1pm to 5pm (Drop off at Storage room - No viewing)
Dec 28h thru Dec 30th - 1pm to 5 pm - Provincial and National Girls
Fri Dec 31st thru Jan 2nd - NO TRAINING
Jan 3rd - Regular training resumes!!!

Tour Selection

The national girls competitive season got off to a flying start in November. Tour selection is the first opportunity to try out all the new skills and routines the girls have been working on since last season ended!   

Twins Sydney and Taylor Davison competed well and are looking to make their mark in the National Novice Category this year. Both girls qualified to move on to Elite Canada coming up December 10th!

Nikki and Melissa

Nikki Paterson had a great competition and finished 1st all around in the National Open category. In her first competition back after a long absense due to injury, Melissa Dowling captured 5th spot. Both girls will represent Team Ontario at the Chicago Style meet in February.

First year Juniors Jordyn Pedersen, Elise Bolger and Mariana Colussi-Pelaez finish 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. 

Oakville had 5 senior athletes compete at Tour Selection. Most notably Christine Lee in her much anticipated return to competition. Sylvia Colussi-Pelaez, Mikaela Gerber, Sabrina Gill, and Krishna Yemeny all competed senior for the first time!!!  Sylvia captured the silver medal in the all around; Sabrina the bronze; Mikaeka 4th place; Christine 6th and Krishna 7th.

Karolyi Ranch

Here are a few pictures from Sue and Sabrina's recent trip to the Karolyi Ranch. Sabrina was invited by Gymnastics Canada to be part of the PAGU selection camp. (Pan American Games 2011)

Ontario Cups and Ontario Championships have been a success!
Good Luck to all National girl's competing at National Championships in Kamloops next month and Eastern Championships.
Packages for next season will be available before June 1st. Committement return forms will be expected back on May 7th!

Elite Canada is here!!!

Elite Canada is here......... This meet has become a real joint effort from all Oakville Gymnastics Club families. Elite Canada is a Gymnastics Canada event, but boy, without all our families contributions, we wouldn't be able to host such an event!

On behalf of the coaches involved, we really thank everyone for all their hard work and efforts towards this weekend!

The "press" was in last night taking pictures of the girl's competing and talking with National Team members. There was an exciting feeling amongst the girl's, they were so proud and ready to "show their stuff ". Part of the experiences "along the way ", we always encourage the girl's to enjoy and remember.

The girl's and coaches have worked so hard to get to this point, lets enjoy the ride!!!
